NPR, LG U+ take “Tiny Desk” format to Korea

National Public Radio (NPR), a U.S. non-profit media group, has unveiled the first international TV format for its long-running Tiny Desk Concert Series.

LG U+ is set to air up to 52 episodes of Tiny Desk Korea, released weekly in the same style as the U.S. original. The deal is the first format licensing agreement for both NPR and LG U+, and was brought together by Korean format agency Something Special, which will also develop and expand the Tiny Desk Korea brand.

The format adaptation is scheduled to premiere in August. The series will spotlight emerging and established artists with performances that are reminiscent of the look and feel of the original Tiny Desk concert series, with some reinterpretation and localization for Korean audiences. All performances will be filmed, produced and aired in South Korea on LG U+-owned platforms.

NPR Music launched the original Tiny Desk concert series in 2008, and has recorded more than 1,000 concerts since then at NPR headquarters in Washington, D.C., attracting 16 million monthly viewers.
