Korea’s Something Special Lands “Major” Investment

Seoul format company Something Special has landed a “major” cash injection from venture capital firm DAEKYO Investment and private investor SB Partners. Financial terms weren’t revealed. Founded by Jin Woo Hwang, who is President and Executive Producer, and EVP & Head of Content InSoon Kim, Something Special is considered one of Korea’s top formats houses, partnering with numerous international distributors, producers and networks and developing formats such as Battle in the Box. It recently launched Unforgettable Duet, in which dementia patients sing their favorite songs to help their memories, and it is representing All3Media’s hit The Traitors in Korea. Kim and Hwang released a statement saying the investment is “a testament to our work in bringing top-tier Korean format talents and projects to the global stage,” adding: “As the leading independent Korean agency representing A-list producers and formats worldwide, we remain committed to our motto: We connect and create.”
