UKTV to adapt Korean format with “Battle in the Box”

UKTV has announced its first original adaptation of a Korean format with Battle in the Box, a celebrity-focused comedy reality game show set to launch on its entertainment channel Dave, as well as on its streamer UKTV Play next year.
Produced by Interstellar, the new series is based on a hit Korean format created by NMedia and represented by Seoul-based format agency Something Special, and will be hosted by Jimmy Carr (pictured). Production is slated to begin in September.
The eight-episode series sees pairs of comedians and celebrities spending 24 hours in a giant empty box divided by a moveable wall with nothing but a toothbrush. Once inside, they only have cameras and each other for company, with no beds, tables, chairs or any home comforts. They instead will earn everything by winning physical and mental challenges set by the host. But more room for one team means less for the losers, as the box’s sliding wall forces them into a smaller space.
Battle in the Box is commissioned for Dave and UKTV by Mark Iddon, senior commissioning editor and Jason Dawson, commissioning executive, and ordered for Dave by Cherie Hall, channel director and Hilary Rosen, director of commissioning. It’s produced by Interstellar, with Jamie Ormerod and David Williams serving as executive producers, with Tom Corrigan as series producer.
