STV-Studios owned prodco Interstellar TV has licensed the rights to adapt South Korean format Battle in the Box for the US market.
London-based Interstellar this year produced a UK version of the show, presented by comedian Jimmy Carr, for multichannel operator UKTV’s U&Dave channel.
Battle in the Box was created by Nmedia for South Korean cable network MBN and is represented globally by Seoul-based Something Special, which announced the new deal.
It’s a comedic competition and reality gameshow hybrid in which two celebrity pairs live in an empty box specially designed with movable walls and take on a series of challenges.
Jin Hoo Wang, president, Something Special, said: “Something Special is thrilled how Battle in the Box was received in the UK and now has an opportunity to go to the US.”
David Williams, MD, Intersteller, said: “Bringing the brilliant Battle in the Box to U&Dave in the UK has been an absolute joy. We cannot wait to take everything we’ve learned about this ground-breaking reality and gameshow format and apply it to a host of new famous faces in the US. American celebrities beware, the Box is coming for you!”
