Something Special awarded format development, production funds from KOCCA

Koren format house Something Special has been awarded two annual funds from the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA).

With the support provided by KOCCA’s Format Lab Fund, Something Special has invited four teams of established producers — including Physical: 100 creator Sook-kyung Kang and Singles Inferno creator Hyunsook Ji — to work with the company’s in-house format producers to develop original IP for international format distribution.

Previous Something Special productions developed through the Format Lab have included Still Alive and The Beatbox, which have been optioned for several international territories. Something Special has also been awarded the Format Production Fund, which is being put towards a forthcoming pilot that the company is creating with a top-tier Korean creative and production company, according to a release. “Since Something Special’s inception five years ago we continue to pride ourselves on working with top producers to develop original Korean format content that can travel around the world,” said InSoon Kim (pictured right), EVP, head of content for Something Special. “Something Special is pleased to be selected for the prestigious KOCCA funds for five years in a row, which demonstrates the strength of our company.”
